Camels have feeling too

·

Have you ever witnessed a camel being birthed? Ok, well, how about a breach birth? Was the camel white?

Well, I can say yes to all three questions above. Some friends recommended a really great rental that Christa and I watched last night: The Story of the Weeping Camel.

The movie was a very inviting documemtary mixed with narrative which followed the life of a nomadic Mongolian tribe who breed camels and other livestock for their survival. Because I want you to watch this one for yourself, I won’t give away many of the details (other than the camel birth) but here are a few things to perk your interest:

  1. The movie shows a guy who is able to reconcile feuding camels by playing a Mongolian violin (?) (I kid you not; it was amazing!)
  2. The movie shows an interesting technique for Mongolian toddler care. You just need a little rope-like sash…
  3. One of the Mongolian youth in the movie is named…Dude. (It’s pronounced doo-day, but I liked calling him Dude.)

This movie definitely had me considering moving a little farther north in Asia…
