I guess I shouldn’t really call it a remodel. The good news is that we have water! The bad news is that our apartment is beginning to look like Swiss cheese.

Our complex is converting to gas (or some form of gas heating)…

Bang, bang, bang!

We’ve been hearing this rhythmic pounding for the past few days now.

Bang, bang, bang!

Yesterday was our day for holes.  As you can see from the pictures, they made three holes in our ceiling and three holes in our floor.  Were we so inclined we could peer into our neighbors apartment, either from above or from below.  We’re not so inclined and neither are our neighbors so we’ve covered these ghastly holes from viewing.

As you can tell from the pictures, this is not a very precise science.  After they carved a brick-sized piece out of our hard wood flooring they proceeded to use sledge hammers and chisels to delve through the concrete foundation (and rebar) seperating the apartments.

Next they will run pipes from each apartment and install radiators in order to regulate the heat.  Needless to say, I’m a bit concerned with the timing of this little construction project.  Especially since winter is coming on fast (I imagine.)  Luckily we still have our electric-heated wall units.  I’m not giving those up until I see the radiators are functional.
