OK, I need some help.  I am looking for some new music.  There are millions of artists out there and the past few nights I’ve been staying up to the wee morning hours browsing through I-Tunes trying to find something striking.

I’ve found some good music, but nothing that has really grabbed me.  I guess I’m looking for an artist or band that might be considered "under the radar".

For example, I’m not looking for U2, Coldplay, Radiohead, David Gray, Sting, David Crowder Band, R.E.M. or anything in that vein.  (I know, I know; I’m being a bit too picky.)  I’m also not looking for an artist/band that has entered the limelight in the past few years but who might formerly be considered "under the radar" (i.e. Sufjan Stevens, Modest Mouse, White Stripes, Death Cab for Cutie, Norah Jones, etc.)

With that being said, my parameters are VERY flexible and may seem contradictory when you see what I list below.  Here’s My Top 5 Under the Radar Artist/Bands that I listen to regularly that I feel like were great "discoveries" for me:

   
1. Over the Rhine (If you know another band like this, that’s exactly what I’m looking for right now.)
    

   

2. Idlewild

   

3. Havalina

   

4. Travis (I know they’re pretty popular and all, but I started listening to them pretty late…)
    

   

5. Pedro the Lion (I know this one is debateable, too, as far as being "under the radar" but I list it because of the style music I’m looking for.)
