temptation

This week I was posed with a moral dilemma.  The NBA Finals is being televised here on Chinese television (CCTV 5).  Great news, right?!

Wrong.

The time difference between China and America (east coast) is 12 hours.  This means that most of the games are on at 9 a.m. (weekdays) here in Xining.  Most of my classes are within the 8-12 p.m. time frame!

One of the games I was able to watch the majority of (because Wednesday I have only afternoon classes.)  The other days I had to decide whether I should go to class or stay home and watch the second half.

What do you think I chose to do?

That’s right.  I did my moral duty and went to class!  It wasn’t easy to pull myself away…but I prevailed in the face of temptation.

I’m rooting for Miami so I’m not so sure I will be as disciplined this next week.  After all, the only televised sports I have to look forward to for the next 6 months are probably ping-pong and badminton tournaments. (Ugh.)   Feel free to pray for me that I will make the right decision…

(p.s. I love it that the Miami fans have been chanting "Hasselhoff-Hasselhoff" in reference to the German-born Dallas Maverick star, Dirk Nowitski…that’s classic.)
