A few days ago, on our way to see the renowned Terra Cotta Soldiers unearthed just outside of Xian, I noticed this sign in Chinese with English translation:
Terra Cotta Worriers
Next Exit 1 KM
I had to laugh at this misspelling (although I think it was actually "worriars") but then I thought about it. If I was a Chinese statue (many centuries old) made out of heated clay, I guess I would be a little anxious, too. Especially if I was guarding an Emperor’s tomb. It would be easy to quickly "lose your head." Just take a look at these guys (especially the two in the front…) and you’ll see what I mean. And this regiment was in much better condition than many of the other squadrons of confidence-challenged pottery puppets.
