Welcome to my first ever "Chinglish" Fry Daze post!
We’ll see if I can get a sample of prime "Chinglish" each week to post on Fridays for your reading enjoyment.
The London Telegraph reports that there is campaign in Beijing to wipe-out Chinglish there as it is "a blight on China’s modernizing pretensions". Their goal is to get rid of it before the much-heralded 2008 Olympics in Beijing. They even have a hot-line you can call. Good luck with that, I say. I wonder how far the campaign will spread…
In the meantime, check out this picture of a toy that Christa bought (here in Xining) for one of Anna’s classmates who is having a birthday. It is an obvious Transformers knock-off.
The toy is called FIREENINEBOT. If I were on wheel of fortune and I had to buy a consonant I am pretty sure it would be a "G".
This one is my favorite though. It’s the much-feared Fireeninebot known as "Copteracy" (When it’s not flying over the city streets, it’s teaching kids how to read! Oooh, intimidating robot…)
