I recently shaved off my goatee and then shaved my head. A friend asked me if I had taken a Nazerite vow. My response, "I’m starting over…"
Sometimes you just need a style change, a cleansing, a more aerodynamic scalp. You need a re-boot. If only it were so easy to change our inner workings, our attitudes, our life climate. Christa and I have felt that way lately–maybe a bit to the extreme. At times, you throw your hands up in the air and cry, "What’s going to happen next?!?" It just has seemed like a LONG season of mysterious sickness, unexpected departures, instability, cross-cultural frustration, theological ping pong, and reacting to imminent "bad news" in the lives of our friends, family, and selves.

And today I was reminded that I am now sporting the Michael Scofield look. Michael Scofield is the main character in the Fox TV series, Prison Break. This is not a show I would have probably ever chosen to watch regularly had we been living in the States these past two years, but on this side of the ‘sphere you get a little desperate for English-speaking entertainment.
I get hooked on this kind of pulp no matter how ridiculous the plot becomes. It’s a prime form of escape (no pun intended.)
Turns out Scofield (or the actor who plays him on TV…) is actually making an appearance in China sometime soon. Here’s an article about his planned visit, the show’s popularity, and the Chinese adaption of Prison Break currently being worked on. I find it quite funny the things that find their way over here to Asia.
Maybe when Scofield shows up he can help me break out of this "funk" I find myself in. Of course, he may recommend that I cover my body with tattoos… I’m afraid of needles. I think I’ll just stick to what I works best–prayer (and the occasional head-shave.)
