children’s day

·

When I was a kid and Mother’s Day and Father’s Day would roll around I remember asking, "When is kids day?"

The answer I got (everyone in unison now):  "Kids day is every day!"

Well, this is not true in China.  In China and in many other countries around the world, June 1st is the day that people celebrate Children’s Day.   Over here classes are canceled (with NO HOMEWORK!), kids participate in fun programs/events, go to parks, get spoiled, etc.

How do we celebrate it as foreigners living in Xining?

Answer:  We don’t!  Kids day is every day!  (Ha-ha.)

Here’s a picture of Russian (USSR) stamp commemorating Children’s Day.  According to wikipedia Children’s Day is most widely celebrated in Communist countries.

  1. I wonder why this is so exclusive to Communist countries? Does this mean your classes are cancelled also? Blessings.

  2. not sure why the communists like kids so much (ha)…

no, since we aren’t kids, we’ll be having class today. problem is, sarah doesn’t have class today. dilemma. so we’ve asked our teacher to just come to our house and teach us and she gladly obliged.

  3. Thailand has a kids day too but it’s in January.
