I finally decided I needed to climb this one. It’s always staring at me from our back yard so I hiked it a few days ago.
It wasn’t nearly as bad as it looks from down below. It took about 45 minutes to reach the top. Probably more of a "hill" out here than a mountain, but I was breathing heavy nonetheless. As I was sitting in the shadow of those prayer flags on top, I was feeling pretty proud of myself until a few Tibetan girls under the age of 10 summited from the other much more difficult face, one carrying a large basket on her back. They probably ran it in 10 minutes or something…
Some of the wildlife I observed on the hike:
- lots of goats all over
- some cows grazing near the base of the hill
- a strange variety of grasshopper with a scarlet-red body; these things could fly long distances and made the loudest ticking sounds.
- a lizard! Yeah, that was crazy. It was about 3.5 inches long.
- butterflies
- wasps; they must have quite a hive built in that mound of prayer flags. I was thinking there’s no way they will be around in a month’s time when the temperature drops.
Next time, I’ll bring my camera on the hike with me.
