Funerals are hard, especially when they are for someone you love AND when you have to travel a few days on planes to even get to them.
I am thankful that my Mamaw was a believer and that we could share so many great memories from the lives we shared with her. But it was still a time of mourning and loss. I was pretty disoriented for most of it I think. It’s strange being in remote China one day, then being in Kentucky, and then being back in China all within an 11 day span of time. You don’t know if you are coming or going. I am grateful that I was able to make this trip home as last-minute as it was. Last night I slept a good 8 hours or more and didn’t wake up at 4, 5, or even 6 a.m. I think I am back on track with my sleep schedule and have enjoyed getting back into my family "routine".
The upside of funerals is getting to see your loved ones all gathered in one place. For me this meant seeing family from Kentucky, Washington D.C., Florida and even Colorado. Some of my relatives I hadn’t seen in three years or EVEN longer. I wasn’t anticipating this reunion so in that sense it was quite nice (although I wished Christa and the girls could have been there obviously.)
Anyway, for my family’s benefit mostly, I am posting this album of pictures from the trip. I come from "good stock" as you can see by these photos. I’m sure I’ll have more to say about my trip, but for now I’m still getting my thoughts and emotions organizized. You guys back in the States try to stay warm during those snow storms.
