I just listened to a talk Brian McLaren gave at Mars Hill Church (i.e. Rob Bell's not M. Driscoll's.)  He was talking about the various "stories" we are all born into contrasted with the new (radically different) Story that Christ came to tell of, live out, and invite us all to be re-born into.  I especially engaged with what McLaren said about the story of Domination, Victimization, Accruing, Scape-goating, and Escapism that many of us know so well.  In a sense we (and the people in Jesus' day) are challenged to break away from the narrative our society has written for us in order to take part in a better narrative.  In some ways, this sermon was in line with what I posted about the other day (i.e. how politics/governments alone ARE NOT big enough to answer the problems in our world.)  But there is a better story being written.  We're invited to be characters in that story.  It will involve sacrifice of our self though.  Lots of that.
