merry christmas, everyone!

ยท

With each passing year it's hard to not be shocked how much earlier the Christmas season starts.  It's insane.  We missed a couple yule-tides while in China so the ramp up date pushed a little further back while were gone.  Next year I imagine that Groundhog Day will be the official start to the holiday season.

Starbucks is selling their "seasonal beverages" already.  Department stores are decked out for the holidays.  Christa saw Santa Claus taking pictures with kids at the South Center mall last week.  Some of our friends were invited to a special Christmas meal at their church–just a few days after Halloween!

So I have decided to be one of the first bloggers out there in 2008 to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.  We've put our foot down and decided we would not start listening to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving, but it's hard when the grocery stores are already blaring it.

So Merry Christmas to all and and a very Happy New Year!

(Let the insanity officially begin…)  I love Christmas!

  1. I LOVE the early Christmas decorations and Starbucks cups, etc. at the malls in Chiang Mai when I’m there. I don’t get ANY of that where I live – to the point that I forget to start playing my Christmas music, etc. a bit too late every year. Except this year – the music’s started already. And I’ve pulled out my reindeer coffee tumbler. ๐Ÿ™‚

What about Christmas movies? Will those only start after Thanksgiving as well?

  2. Things aren’t quite as early here in general, but I did notice yesterday that the grocery store has the whole Chrismas decoration aisle already in place. Crazy! Of course they don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Croatia so why not go straight to Christmas! (And don’t even mention those Starbucks seasonal beverages…my mouth is watering…not a gingerbread latte to be found around these parts)

  3. beth: yep, no christmas movies until AFTER thanksgiving. if we were in china right now it might be a different story. i don’t blame you for getting a little more festive earlier. as an expat it’s good for your mental health i think.

amy: why not go straight into christmas celebration? sorry about mentioning those-drinks-which-should-not-be-named. i wasn’t being sensitive to my overseas audience. just fyi, since i’ve already biffed it and mentioned them, they have renamed the gingerbread latte. it is now known as the “gingersnap” latte. (my personal fav as well.) the only difference in the drink is that they put more ginger on the top of the drink. don’t ask me what prompted it? i’m blaming it on the economic downturn. ๐Ÿ™‚
