This book was amazing. I love the imaginative vision mixed with the cultural and historical research that Rice employs in order to bring the childhood Jesus to life. I engaged with this book more than I did with The Shack (another recent read), but that’s probably because Anne Rice is a writer’s writer and she paints a picture without telling the reader what to think about it. The book is not pedagogical but illustrative and Jesus of the Gospels comes alive–literally off the page for me–in such a refreshing way. I’m glad Anne Rice came back to her Catholic roots and created this amazing literary work that can inspire one’s faith and relate to our Lord in a fresh way. Check it out, folks! It’s a really good read.

Is this the first in her series on Christ. Greg and I went to 3rd place books a few years ago when the book just came out and she was doing a book signing there. We had her autograph the first book for our nephew as a Christmas present. Didn’t think to buy myself one…silly me

Yeah, I think it is. I just did a search and you’re right–there’s a second one out now called Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana. Cool! I’ll have to check that one out next…
