Over the years some people have told me that I am a lot like Adam from Northern Exposure.  I am not sure if they are referring to my attitude or appearance; I’m afraid perhaps it’s a little bit of both.  Wikipedia calls Adam a “misanthropic recluse” who first appears as Cicely, Alaska’s equivalent to the Bigfoot.  So we already have that in common.  He’s cynical and grumpy and, according to some viewers, displays traits of high-functioning autism.  I always appreciated his character on Northern Exposure because he was so no-nonsense, sarcastic, and unabashed in his criticism of Fleischman or anyone else who he disagreed with.  In that way, I don’t think we’re that similar–and maybe that’s what draws me to his character.  He also would pull out all these hidden talents (cooking) and knowledge (government conspiracy theory) which made his quirky character all the more interesting.

Anyway, I’m not really sure why I’ve been on this Northern Exposure kick lately.  I guess I’m just pining away for a little light-hearted, cerebral entertainment which is painfully lacking on TV these days.
