ebony and ivory, unplugged FB redux

·

Well, there are necessities and then there are “necessities”.   This weekend we acquired a free piano (seen here:)

pianoNo one in our family actually plays the piano, but we’re optimistic people I guess.  Anna is very musical.  God has a way of rectifying talent-deficiency in the next generation–so Anna, we believe, can overcome her musical genetic inheritance (father’s side).  Or maybe Sarah will be the next Jerry Lee Louis (she is a fireball after all.)

The irony of the piano, for me, is that we don’t own much–mattresses, bedding, dressers, kitchen appliances & utensils, pots, pans, plates, silverware, etc.–but we now do own a piano…which none of us can play.  There is something soooo American (Seinfeld-ian even) about that.

In case anyone noticed, I unplugged my Facebook account again.  Yeah, it had to be done.  The rub is my obsessive-compulsive disorder. With FB I can by nosy about what everyone is doing/thinking/imagining at all hours of the day.  I also feel the need to provide moment by moment minutia about everything I am doing at all hours of the day.  At least with a blog I can provide some limits to my obsessions and voyeuristic tendencies.  And I’ve been painlessly “quiz-free” for three or four days now.  Feels freeing.

  1. man! i’m SO jealous. yes i’d agree that anna is very musical, she probably has enough musical talent to make up for quite a few tone deaf people!

  2. I understand the thing about FB. I decided not to use it for a couple months. It IS freeing!
