Top Ten Reasons For Slacking

·

Well, I haven’t blogged about anything really for 4 straight days. It deserves an explanation. Here are ten possible reasons for the slack in content:

  1. Laziness.  I wish this wasn’t my number one excuse, but, well yeah…
  2. The sweltering heat.  I feel like I’m melting in this humidity.
  3. The digital camera’s battery needs to be charged so I haven’t taken a picture since Sarah’s birthday.  (See reason #1.)
  4. There are only so many things you can do at the Juniper Tree.  They are: eat, sleep, swim, read, watch the girls play on the playground equipment, watch movies, watch the girls jump on the trampoline (in the sweltering heat), play basketball with an under-inflated ball, categorize strange animal sounds by tone, use the internet at 30 baht / hour, scratch your mosquito bites, play ping-pong, watch butterflies, sweat, get paranoid about the emergence of large geckos and rats, et al. It’s not that these activities are BAD; other than a few they are quite good.  They are just tricky topics to blog about.
  5. Ennui.  (Hey, you think it’s always exciting to blog.  Think again! I’m a postmodern man after all.)
  6. Cuts into reading time.  The climate here makes it prime for sitting near a fan and cracking open a good book.  It’s hacienda-time 24-7, at least for a few more days. (See reason #1)
  7. Energy normally used to write consumed in slough of bartering situations.  You have to negotiate prices with taxi drivers, night bazaar merchants, restroom attendants, and 7-11 clerks.  I’m exaggerating a bit, but that’s how it feels… "400 baht, are you kidding me?!  How about 100?  OK, then, 200…and that’s my final offer"
  8. Slacking is just one of my character flaws.
  9. Don’t seem as desperate for attention if I wait a few days to "check in".
  10. Something in the water is quenching my motivation.  (I know it’s weak but I needed a tenth reason…)
